Three individuals were stabbed at Gare de Lyon in Paris

At the Gare de Lyon early Saturday morning, a man with a knife and hammer attacked people before being tacked down by a security guard.

An attack at the Gare de Lyon transport hub was brought to an end with the arrest of a suspect. The incident occurred at approximately 7:35 a.m. local time (6:35 a.m. UK time) resulting in serious injuries to one person. Currently, the injured person is undergoing surgery.

Laurent Nunez, the chief of police in Paris, has stated that the attack does not appear to be related to terrorism. He has also described the perpetrator as appearing to have issues with their mental health.

The fact that the suspect was carrying residency papers from Italy, as well as medicines that suggested he was receiving treatment, was something that he said.

A security guard is said to have tackled him to the ground, and according to the Paris prosecutor's office, he was armed with a knife and a hammer. He was also reportedly armed with both of these weapons.

The alleged weapons are currently being examined by the police, and they have stated that they are considering filing a preliminary charge of attempted murder.

It has been reported by the French 24-hour rolling news channel BFMTV that the perpetrator of the attack is 32 years old and hails from Mali.

A message was posted on social media by the French Minister of the Interior, Gerald Darmanin, in which he referred to the attack as an "unbearable act" and expressed gratitude to those who were able to apprehend the perpetrator.

A warning was also posted on X by the French national railway company, SNCF, to customers about the possibility of disruptions caused by "an act of malicious intent."

It was stated that halls one and three of the station were "temporarily inaccessible" as a result of the intervention of the police and emergency services. Additionally, there were delays between the Paris Gare de Lyon and Montargis, as well as between the Paris Gare de Lyon and Montereau.

It is one of the busiest train stations in Paris, and the Gare de Lyon is exactly that. In addition to being a hub for commuter trains that serve the suburbs and towns in the Paris region, it is also a hub for high-speed trains that connect the capital to other cities.

Due to the upcoming Olympic Games scheduled to be held in Paris at the end of July, the city has heightened its security measures. The opening ceremony is set to take place on July 26th and is expected to draw in around 10,500 athletes and millions of visitors.
