Premier League costs 'frustrating', says Al-Mubarak

Manchester City chairman Khaldoon al-Mubarak expresses his frustration with the club's on-pitch achievements being overshadowed by the constant reminders of the 115 Premier League charges against them.

Last month, City achieved an unprecedented feat in English football history by clinching the league title for the fourth consecutive season.

However, come autumn, a Premier League disciplinary commission will be convening to examine the case against City regarding their alleged violations of financial regulations, some of which have been in place since 2009.

The City team has denied all the charges. However, their manager, Pep Guardiola, recently expressed uncertainty about the public's opinion of his team.

"Naturally, it's quite frustrating," Khaldoon expressed to City's internal media during his annual end-of-season address. The referencing can be frustrating at times.

It's unfortunate for our fan base and everyone involved with the club that these charges are constantly brought up.

It's been a waiting game, but there's a necessary process that we must adhere to. I've consistently emphasised the importance of relying on concrete evidence rather than getting caught up in a back-and-forth of assertions and rebuttals.

According to sources at TGE Sport, Khaldoon gave the interview before stories on Tuesday regarding City's legal challenge to the Premier League's commercial rules emerged.

An arbitration hearing has been scheduled from 10 to 21 June to address the league's associated party transaction (APT) rules. These rules determine the financial fairness of sponsorship deals.

When questioned about the potential influence of financial regulations on the upcoming transfer window, Khaldoon provided insights into how varying rules may govern different competitions. He answered without knowing that City's current position would be known to the public.

The Premier League has reached its current status as the most competitive league, he stated.

Based on the current situation, seeing a more measured approach to regulation would be beneficial. A well-rounded perspective is valuable across all sports leagues.

Swaps and loans have faced numerous restrictions, significantly limiting their availability. It will likely be evident during the upcoming summer.

Since his appointment in 2016, Guardiola has secured an impressive 15 trophies at the club.

The 53-year-old has one year remaining on his current contract, which he inked in November 2022.

After leading his team to the Premier League title in May, the former Barcelona manager hinted at possibly departing the club when his contract ends in 2025.

Al-Mubarak stated that Pep's unwavering dedication to this club and his commitment to every contract he has signed with us is commendable.

He expressed that the decision regarding his future is always collaborative, and I am confident that we will reach a suitable solution that benefits both Pep and our organisation.
