In a surprising turn of events, Dick Cheney, the former US Vice-President and a prominent figure in the Republican party, has announced his intention to cast his vote for Kamala Harris, the Democratic candidate, in the upcoming presidential election this November.

Former Vice President Cheney, widely regarded as a prominent figure during the George W. Bush administration, strongly asserted that there is no one more dangerous to our nation than Donald Trump, the current Republican candidate.

In a surprising turn of events, Liz Cheney, the daughter of former Republican lawmaker Dick Cheney, revealed to a captivated audience in Texas that her father had decided to support the Democratic nominee. This unexpected announcement has left many wondering about the motivations behind this political shift.

"He [Trump] attempted to secure the previous election through deceit and aggression to maintain his position of authority despite being rejected by the voters," stated Mr. Cheney. "His ability to wield power must be questioned indefinitely."

"It is the responsibility of every citizen to prioritize the well-being of our nation over political affiliations to safeguard our constitution," he emphasized. "I have decided to support Vice-President Kamala Harris by casting my vote."

The Harris camp expressed appreciation for Mr. Cheney's remarks.

Campaign chair Jen O'Malley Dillon expressed the vice president's gratitude for Vice President Cheney's support and acknowledged his commendable decision to prioritize the country's interests above party loyalty.

Adding to the increasing number of Republicans, Mr. Cheney has voiced his apprehension regarding Donald Trump's candidacy.

Vice-President Harris has already received the backing of Liz Cheney, his daughter.

As a member of the House select committee investigating the 6 January Capitol riots, she played a crucial role in the proceedings. Notably, she stood out among her Republican colleagues by being one of the ten who voted to impeach former President Trump following the incident.

In 2022, Ms. Cheney was defeated in her bid for re-election to Congress by a candidate supported by former President Trump.

After Mr. Cheney made his statement, Trump took to social media to express his thoughts, referring to the former vice president as an "irrelevant RINO" - a term used to describe Republicans who are seen as not truly adhering to the party's principles.

In addition, he referred to Mr. Cheney as the individual responsible for perpetuating a series of seemingly never-ending and irrational conflicts, explicitly alluding to his involvement in the Iraq War.
