Messi participated for a mere 7 minutes in the final, whilst Ronaldo did not take part in the match due to his ongoing rehabilitation from a calf injury.
The highly anticipated encounter between long-standing adversaries Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo did not occur as expected. However, it was evident that one of the renowned icons, Messi, derived more pleasure from Al-Nasr’s resounding 6-0 victory against Inter Miami on Thursday.
Messi remained on the Miami bench for all but the last seven minutes, displaying a growing sense of sadness. Meanwhile, Al-Nassr, with Ronaldo watching from the Kingdom Arena stands while he recovered from a calf injury, dominated the friendly match and scored three goals inside the first 12 minutes.
In three minutes, Otavio unleashed an indomitable strike into the uppermost corner of Miami's goal, prompting his Portuguese teammate Ronaldo to rise from his seat and applaud. Three minutes later, Brazil's Anderson Talisca scored a goal from a short distance.
Aymeric Laporte, in contrast, executed a free-kick from inside the Al-Nassr half by lofting the ball over the head of Miami custodian Drake Callender. Despite Callender's dash back towards the goal, his efforts to prevent the surprise shot were ultimately futile.
In the first half, the MLS club, who had lost 4-3 to Nassr's Riyadh rival Al-Hilal three days earlier in the first game of their Saudi Arabian tour, showed few offensive capabilities save for a Luis Suarez volley.
Following the break, Al-Nassr continued to score goals despite the absence of Sadio Mané, who was away on international service with Senegal, and five prominent local players who were participating in the Asian Cup with the Saudi Arabian national side.
Talisca scored his second goal after 51 minutes, converting a penalty kick. Later in the half, Mohammed Maran scored a fifth goal with a header. Talisca had plenty of time to achieve his hat trick, further intensifying Miami's embarrassment.
Messi entered the game during the last moments, but his influence was little. Miami's preseason trip continues in Asia, with matches in Hong Kong on Sunday and Japan three days thereafter.
