Võ Thị Ánh Xuân will assume the role of Acting President until a new leader is elected by the National Assembly.

Vice President Võ Thị Ánh Xuân was named as the interim president of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on Thursday, after the resignation of previous President Võ Văn Thưởng.

The declaration was issued by the Standing Committee of the National Assembly after the Sixth Extraordinary Session of the 15th National Assembly concluded.

It is anticipated that Xuân will continue to hold this post until the National Assembly convenes to choose a new President.

According to reports from the Central Inspection Commission and other pertinent institutions, it has been determined that former President Võ Văn Thưởng has been found to have contravened Party norms.

The aforementioned infractions are related to the restrictions imposed on individuals affiliated with the Party, as well as the guidelines about the obligation of officials to serve as role models, namely for members of the Politburo, Secretariat, and the Central Committee of the Party.

The adverse public sentiment about this matter has had a substantial influence on the standing of both the Party and the State.

Võ Văn Thưởng has lately filed a letter requesting an exemption from his allocated responsibilities and tasks, and the Party Central Committee has approved his appeal.
