On Monday morning, Sylhet experienced a significant downpour, with 65 mm of rainfall recorded in just three hours.

Worries about the possibility of flooding have emerged once again in the district.

Travellers in Sylhet encountered many issues on Monday morning as they embarked on their journeys to different locations, all thanks to the heavy rainfall.

As the rain has continued relentlessly for the past two days, the water levels of the Surma and Kushiara rivers have surged above the danger level.

The current situation has caused great anxiety among the city's inhabitants and the neighbouring upazilas, who are deeply concerned about the potential occurrence of another catastrophic flood.

In an interview with TGE, Sazu Ahmed, a meteorologist from the Sylhet Met office, it was reported that we received 65mm of rainfall between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. on Monday.

According to the recorded data, the rainfall bet occurred between 6:00 a.m. yesterday and 6:00 this morning.

According to the latest weather forecast, Sylhet will experience heavy rainfall until Wednesday.

Arif Ahmed, a resident of the Ramer Dighirpar area, shared that their home was flooded on the 20th of last month, forcing them to seek refuge at a relative's house. A similar situation could potentially occur.

The public relations officer of Sylhet City Corporation, Sajlu Lasker, confirmed that the shelter centres in the city are fully prepared.

In the event of waterlogging, individuals will have the opportunity to access this location.

According to sources from the Water Development Board in Sylhet, the Kushiara River's water level has been consistently above the danger level for the past month.

In contrast, the Surma River took only five days to surpass the danger level.

Since this morning, the Surma River at Kanaighat Point has flowed above the danger level.

For the past month, the water level of the Kushiara River at Fenchuganj Point has consistently exceeded the danger level.

The water levels in the rivers Luva, Shari, Douki, and Dholai also rise in Sylhet.

According to sources from the Sylhet district administration, 10,903 individuals have sought refuge at shelter centres in 10 out of the district's 13 upazilas.

There are currently 653 shelter centres prepared in the district.

Two hundred nineteen of these have become a refuge for people seeking shelter.

However, the shelter centres of Sylhet City Corporation and Sadar Upazila currently need more individuals.

The Sylhet deputy commissioner, Sheikh Russel Hasan, stated that the district administration monitors the flood situation closely and remains highly alert. Relief efforts are ongoing at the shelters and areas affected by the flood.
