Obama: US set to embrace a Harris presidency

In a speech delivered in Chicago, Barack Obama expressed his belief that Kamala Harris is ready to assume the role of president, stating that "the torch has been passed" to her. Obama's words were directed towards his fellow Democrats, conveying his confidence in Harris's ability to lead the United States.

Former President Obama received a warm welcome from the enthusiastic crowd at the bustling arena where the party's nominating convention took place. He expressed confidence in Vice President Harris's commitment to advocating for the American people. He voiced his concerns about Donald Trump, his opponent in the November election, describing him as a potential threat.

Kamala Harris is fully prepared for the role. "She has dedicated her life to advocating for those often overlooked," he remarked.

According to Obama, Harris is a dedicated individual who is attentive to others' needs and committed to advocating for them daily.

"Yes, she can," stated Obama, as the enthusiastic crowd erupted into chants, reminiscent of Obama's iconic "Yes we can" campaign slogan.

Before his captivating performance, Michelle Obama, the former First Lady of the United States, shared a sense of anticipation with convention attendees, remarking an indescribable air of enchantment.

"The contagious power of hope," she exclaimed, affectionately referring to Harris as "my girl" and expressing that hope, a rallying cry from her husband's triumphant 2008 campaign, is experiencing a resurgence.

The atmosphere in Chicago was already electric when President Joe Biden took the stage, delivering a heartfelt speech just weeks after concluding his reelection campaign.

"Back in 2012, I had the opportunity to cast my vote for him. At that time, there was a lot of speculation and enthusiasm surrounding the possibility of Michelle Obama entering the presidential race. However, fast forward to the present, and we now have Kamala as our Vice President." "This can be seen as a symbolic passing of the torch," commented Tamara Hall, a 35-year-old attendee from California.

During his heartfelt speech at the convention, Doug Emhoff, the Second Gentleman, spoke passionately about Harris's readiness.

"She is praised with cheers for her ability to bring joy and toughness to this task," he reported.

"In the current state of our nation, she is the ideal president."

With the party united and Harris polling firmly, Democrats are expressing confidence in their ability to defeat Trump.

In a surprising turn of events, the Republican nominee appeared to be on track to reclaim power in the upcoming November election. However, all expectations were shattered when Biden unexpectedly withdrew from the race and threw his support behind his vice president.

Democratic supporters are already drawing parallels to Obama's groundbreaking 2008 campaign, where an overwhelming surge of excitement propelled him to the presidency.

During a lively roll call, enthusiastic delegates officially nominated Harris after being confirmed as their candidate through a procedural vote.

She expressed her gratitude and informed the delegates that she would see them in two days in Chicago. Her message was delivered via video link from her event in Milwaukee.

Harris, who garnered an enthusiastic reception in Chicago during her first appearance before Biden's speech, made her way to Milwaukee on Tuesday for an event held at the same basketball arena where Trump had attended the Republican convention only a month prior.

The selection of the 18,000-seat arena is likely to provoke a reaction from Trump. He has expressed concern that Harris, at 59 years old, can attract large crowds, something that Biden has struggled with in the past.

Simultaneously addressing both crowds, she emphasized that she had successfully filled the DNC and RNC venues.

'The most formidable obstacle'

To divert media focus from the Democratic convention, Trump has organized several weekly events. On Tuesday, he addressed the public, highlighting what he claims to be Harris's "anti-police" position.

During an event held in Howell, Michigan, he strongly criticized "the Kamala crime wave."

Amidst a backdrop of police officers and their vehicles, he boldly asserted that venturing across the street to purchase a simple loaf of bread could result in a tragic outcome. However, his claim of a 43 per cent surge in violent crime appears to be unfounded.

Despite public pleas from allies for Trump to shift his focus towards policies and refrain from launching personal insults at Harris, he has remained undeterred.

On Monday, the spotlight was on Biden as he took the stage at the DNC. Despite doubts about his age and ability to take on Trump, Biden delivered a powerful speech, marking the end of his reelection campaign.

Biden has transformed what could have been a potentially embarrassing moment into a compelling story of selflessness as he hands over the reins to his promising young protege.

"Serving as your president has been the greatest honour of my life. "I love the job, but my love for my country surpasses it," he expressed as he wiped away a tear amidst a resounding applause before warmly embracing Harris on stage.

In a recent statement, former President Obama praised Joe Biden, describing him as an exceptional leader who courageously protected democracy during a critical period.

Another notable speaker on Monday was Hillary Clinton, who made history in 2016 as a major party's first female presidential nominee. Despite losing to Trump in an election that began a tumultuous period in recent US politics, Clinton remains a prominent figure.

According to Clinton, Harris will be the individual who shatters the most challenging barrier for women in the country.

According to ratings monitor Nielsen, the DNC's first night drew an impressive audience of twenty million viewers, surpassing the Republican gathering's opener, which attracted 18.1 million viewers.
