Malaysia's PM may visit Bangladesh

Reports suggest that Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is considering visiting Bangladesh shortly. This visit is said to respond to an invitation extended by Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus.

 

As revealed during a recent phone call, the Malaysian prime minister has expressed interest in visiting Bangladesh. A foreign ministry official informed this correspondent that he might visit Dhaka within the next month or two.

 

"Prof Yunus has invited me to visit Bangladesh to enhance the strong bond between our two countries," Anwar Ibrahim shared on X after their phone conversation on Tuesday evening.

 

In addition, he congratulated Prof Yunus, referring to him as an "old friend," on his recent appointment as the chief advisor to the interim government of Bangladesh.

 

Professor Yunus has a longstanding positive relationship with Malaysia. Ibrahim added that Malaysia is fully prepared to assist and back the interim government in its efforts to rebuild and establish peace and security in Bangladesh.

 

According to the individual, Prof Yunus has assured that he is committed to safeguarding the rights of all Bangladeshis, including minority groups.

 

Bangladesh and Malaysia trade $2.7 billion, and Bangladesh exports goods worth around $370 million to Malaysia.

 

Additionally, approximately 800,000 Bangladeshis are currently employed in Malaysia.

 

Prof Yunus expressed his hope that more Bangladeshis would have the opportunity to work in the Southeast Asian country during the phone call.
