India coach Rahul Dravid will be stepping down from his position once his contract ends following the T20 World Cup.

Dravid, the former batter, has made it clear that he will not be throwing his hat in the ring for the position recently advertised by the BCCI, the governing body.

In 2021, the 51-year-old took over from Ravi Shastri and under his guidance, India reached the finals of the World Test Championship and the 50-over World Cup. Despite the unfortunate outcome, Dravid's leadership was instrumental in these achievements.

Dravid expressed that, given the current circumstances and his commitments, it seems unlikely that he will be able to reapply.

He has found immense joy in this work. Coaching India has been a privilege and a truly remarkable job. Dravid's passion for coaching is evident in his words, making his decision to step down is truly significant.

Despite the two losses against Australia, Dravid led India to the semi-finals of the 2022 T20 World Cup, a significant achievement. However, they were defeated by the eventual champions, England, in a closely contested match.

Their record in global tournaments has been lacking since their victory in the 2013 Champions Trophy.

"We have certainly played some impressive cricket in these tournaments," Dravid emphasised. "We have fallen short in that crucial knockout match during the 50-over World Cup."

Dravid continues to express that they will perform their best to put themselves in those positions again. Strong cricket performance is needed to secure victory.

India will play Ireland in the T20 World Cup opening match on Wednesday in New York. The team hopes to win the competition for the first time since it was first held in 2007.
