The six coordinators of the students against discrimination, who led the quota reform movement, have been released from custody by the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

Around 1:30 pm, they emerged from the DB office and went to a sleek black car.

Azhar Mukul, the additional commissioner of DB's Ramna zone, confirmed the individuals' release. The families of the six coordinators arrived at the DB office earlier.

On the afternoon of July 26, three student leaders involved in the quota reform movement were apprehended from the Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital in Dhaka.

The three individuals were Nahid Islam, Asif Mahmud, and Abu Baker.

Nahid and Asif received medical treatment at the facility with Baker.

The following evening, two additional coordinators, Sarjis Alam, and Hasnat Abdullah, were added to the team. Early on Sunday morning, Nusrat Tabassum, a coordinator, was apprehended at her relative's house in Mirpur.

The six coordinators have been stationed at the city's DB office at Minto Road.

According to DB, they have taken the coordinators into custody for their safety, citing concerns about their security.

On July 19, Nahid Islam was apprehended from a residence in the Nandipara area of Khilgaon. It came after a countrywide shutdown organized by students and the resulting clashes.

After a day had passed, he found himself stranded in the Purbachal area of the city, nursing various injuries scattered across his body. He has been undergoing treatment at the Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital.

On the same day, the two other coordinators, Asif and Abu Baker, were also abducted and fortunately released five days later. Asif had been undergoing treatment at the hospital with Abu Baker by his side.

In recent developments, lawyers Manjul Al-Matin and Ainunnahar Siddika have taken a significant step by filing a writ on Monday.

They aim to secure the release of six coordinators and to request the court's intervention in preventing the use of live bullets against protestors nationwide.

The double bench heard the case on Monday and Tuesday, and it was listed as number 10 on the cause list for Wednesday.

According to a court source, the Wednesday hearing had to be postponed. One of the double bench justices, SM Masud Hossain Dolon, could not attend due to illness and had taken two days' leave for Wednesday and Thursday.
