Chinese PM announces $1bn economic support for Bangladesh

Chinese Premier Li Qiang announced that China would provide one billion US dollars to Bangladesh as economic assistance, emphasising the significance of their relationship with Bangladesh.


Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud made this statement during a press briefing in Beijing.


According to reports, the Chinese Premier expressed his strong interest in further strengthening the relations between Bangladesh and China.


The Foreign Minister emphasised the mutual respect and understanding that characterized the productive discussion between Bangladesh and China, fostering a friendly atmosphere and paving the way for further collaboration.


According to Hasan, Li Qiang highlighted the strong bond that was established during the visits of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1952 and 1957, as well as the six visits of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.


Li Qiang expressed optimism that these visits will pave the way for further expansion of the bilateral relations in the future.


During a recent meeting, Sheikh Hasina made a formal request to her Chinese counterpart, urging them to consider importing a range of products from Bangladesh.


These products include leather goods, jute products, pharmaceuticals, and ceramics. In a promising development, the two nations have come to a mutual agreement to collaborate to promote global peace and uphold the principles of humanity.


Sheikh Hasina has invited increased Chinese investments in 100 special economic zones and the Bangabandhu Industrial Park.


She highlighted that Bangladesh has allocated one export processing zone specifically for Chinese investors.


Sheikh Hasina invited the Chinese President, Prime Minister, and other dignitaries to visit Bangladesh next year, marking the momentous occasion of 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations.


The leaders of Bangladesh and China have underscored the importance of commemorating the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic relationship.


This significant milestone is a testament to the two nations' long-standing ties and shared history.


Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has reached out to China, seeking their cooperation in finding a resolution to the Rohingya issue

She highlighted the importance of addressing the trade imbalance with China. During his remarks, the Chinese Prime Minister expressed interest in increasing imports of products from Bangladesh.

Sheikh Hasina has requested Chinese cooperation to ensure that Bangladesh can benefit from the LDC facilities for at least three more years as it prepares to become a Middle Income Country after 2026 officially.
