A member of parliament from Bangladesh who had travelled to India for medical treatment has sadly been found dead, and he has been murdered.

Anwarul Azim Anar, a member of the ruling Awami League in Bangladesh, has been reported missing by a friend. He had travelled to India's eastern state of West Bengal on 12 May.

Asaduzzaman Khan, Bangladesh's home minister, has confirmed the death of the MP and informed that three arrests have been made, according to the Indian police.

The minister, speaking at a press briefing in Dhaka, stated that the people of our country are allegedly involved in the killing, as reported by the Indian state-sponsored DD News.

According to Mr. Khan, efforts have been made to apprehend several additional individuals.

There has been a homicide... There is no reason to believe that this incident will have any negative impact on relations with India, as no Indian individuals were involved. Based on the information we have received thus far, it appears that individuals from our country may be connected to this tragic murder.

Anar served as the representative for the Jhenaidah constituency in Bangladesh.

Unnamed sources within West Bengal's Crime Investigation Department, as reported by India Today, claim that Anar's body was gruesomely dismembered and scattered throughout the city. However, no official confirmation of this has been made by the police.

According to a report by the News18 channel, a suspect named Jihad Hawladar, a resident of Khulna district in Bangladesh, has been apprehended in Mumbai. It is alleged that Hawladar had entered India illegally and was residing in the city.

"According to an official quoted by the Press Trust of India, the investigation revealed that the Bangladeshi parliamentarian was ensnared by a woman who had a close relationship with the victim's friend." It appears that Anar was enticed into the New Town flat in Kolkatta by the woman.

There are suspicions that he met his demise shortly after entering the flat.

As reported by Live-mint, family members of the deceased MP are making arrangements to travel to Kolkata for additional formalities. The visa process is currently in progress.

The West Bengal government has been contacted by India's Ministry of External Affairs, urging them to conduct a thorough investigation into the murder.

Reports suggest a Special Investigation Team [SIT] has been established to examine the case thoroughly.

A complaint was filed at the Baranagar police station in Bidhannagar, West Bengal after the MP's daughter expressed concern about her inability to reach her father. Gopal Viswas, a family friend, took the initiative to file the complaint.

According to CID Inspector General Akhilesh Kumar Chaturvedi, as reported by ANI, there was no prior intimation of the Bangladeshi MP's arrival in this city. Our attention was drawn to him when Gopal Biswas, an acquaintance in Kolkata, filed a missing diary [report] on 18 May.

"During the ongoing investigation, a significant development occurred on 20 May when the Ministry of External Affairs intimated us. Today, we have received an input that raises suspicions of a possible murder in the case," he stated.

The reason behind the killing remains a mystery

Jhenaidah, a region bordering India, has gained notoriety for its alarming crime rate. Azim [Anar] held the position of a local lawmaker in that area. After seeking treatment in India, the incident occurred. The Bangladesh home minister stated during his press briefing that, based on the available information, the individual was killed at that location.

A West Bengal CID officer stated that it is suspected that the murderers mutilated the body of Anar, separating the flesh from the bones and mixing them with turmeric powder in an apparent attempt to slow down the decomposition process, according to a report by FirstPost.

The body parts were likely placed in plastic bags and dispersed across various locations. An officer stated that there is suspicion that certain parts were stored in a refrigerator, and samples have been collected. Additionally, a broader search for additional body parts is currently being conducted.

Recently, the ruling BJP has levelled serious allegations against the state government, claiming they conceal essential information. Seizing this opportunity, they have also launched a scathing attack on a prominent opposition figure, West Bengal's chief minister Mamata Banerjee.

There have been previous instances of brutal killings in West Bengal. Amit Malviya, a senior BJP leader, made a bold statement on X, suggesting that the investigation into the murder could potentially expose influential individuals within the West Bengal Government. However, it is essential to note that he did not provide evidence to support his claim.
