Arteta: Arsenal 'want more' this season

Mikel Arteta says that Arsenal players have told him they "want more" this season as they try to keep Manchester City from winning their fifth straight champion.

Arsenal has been second in the league behind City the last two years, and they were only two points behind Pep Guardiola's team last year.

Arteta and Arsenal held a meeting in central London the night after the last game of the season against Everton. The club's owner and co-chairman, Josh Kroenke, as well as players with their families and club staff, were present.

"All the players were saying to me, 'We are going to be better, we are going to do it, we want more,'" he said.

"They drive that ambition, so that is always positive."

Arsenal's first game of the season is this Saturday at Emirates Stadium against Wolves. Arteta says his team is excited to start their bid for the title.

He said, "We are excited." "We have been missing the competition for many weeks, too long." We cannot wait to get started and are excited about it. "We had a tough pre-season. This team looks good, ready to play, and on it.

No team has scored more points in five straight years in the Premier League. However, Arsenal may need to do that to win the title for the first time since 2004.

So far, Arsenal has gotten better every season. They only had 56 points in 2019–20, but they had 89 points last season.

Former England captain Alan Shearer wrote in his TGE Sport piece that "the one thing they are missing... is a goal scorer" when asked about Arsenal's chances of winning the title.

He said, "If Arsenal signs a top striker, then I would back them to win the league."

Arteta thinks his team is still far from perfect. Work is still being done to strengthen the squad because the manager wants them to improve.

"We are still far from being perfect," Arteta said.

"This team still has a long way to go. I see that every day in how they train and play, so I know they can improve."
