403 more people were arrested nationwide

Over the past 24 hours, over 10,000 students and people have been detained in connection with Bangladesh's ongoing quota reform movement.


Additionally, law enforcement authorities nationwide arrested 403 more people into custody from Sunday afternoon to Monday afternoon.

 

Our correspondents have diligently documented the individuals apprehended, sourcing information from court and police records dating back to July 17.

 

Based on the latest count, a staggering 10,028 individuals have been taken into custody as of yesterday.

 

On July 1, students took to the streets to voice their demands for reform to the quota system in government jobs.


A nationwide demonstration erupted on July 15, resulting in widespread clashes.

 

Reports of escalating clashes, attacks, violence, arson, and casualties have been on the rise since July 16.


Following this, law enforcement officials have taken action by filing cases and making arrests related to this matter.

 

So far, the individuals who have been arrested primarily consist of leaders and activists affiliated with the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami, along with their associated organizations.

 

In a concerning turn of events, prominent figures from political parties that have been actively involved in coordinating protests alongside the BNP are now facing arrests. Arrests are also being made among the students.

 

According to the police, individuals who have been involved in acts of violence are the only ones being apprehended.

 

According to sources from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), 56 individuals were apprehended within 24 hours of yesterday at noon, bringing the overall number of arrests in the city to 2,820.

 

As of yesterday at noon, a staggering 243 cases have been filed in Dhaka.

 

On the city's outskirts, 23 cases have been reported across various police stations, including Dhamrai, Savar, Ashulia, Keraniganj, Nawabganj, and Dohar.


Yesterday, authorities apprehended seven individuals from multiple locations.

 

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has recently made a significant breakthrough, with 334 individuals apprehended nationwide.


Eighty-three individuals were arrested in Dhaka, while 251 were detained outside the city.

 

In a recent development, Gazipur has seen the filing of two new cases, resulting in the arrest of 22 individuals.


A staggering 464 individuals have been arrested across the district in 42 cases.

 

Two new cases have been filed in Madaripur, resulting in the district's arrest of 118 individuals across 13 cases.

 

An additional 23 individuals have been apprehended in 31 incidents within the city and district of Chattogram.


The majority of those involved are BNP leaders and activists.

 

Chattogram's number of arrests has reached 957, marking a significant development.
